What Debt Settlement Companies Can Do For You

If you've decided that debt settlement is the best way for you to get out of debt, you might be trying to decide if you should try to do it yourself or go through one of the many debt settlement companies that are out there. By doing it yourself, your creditors will not be as likely to give you the same discounts that debt settlement companies can get for you. Why? There are a couple of reasons, actually.

First of all, your creditors will see you as a potential risk if you are resorting to debt settlement. They have no assurances that you will pay the new agreed-upon amount (which will be due immediately). However, your creditors trust debt settlement companies more because they've worked with them in the past and they know they'll get their money.

Second of all, debt settlement companies employ skilled negotiators. If your creditors agree to giving you a debt settlement without going through a debt settlement company, they won't give you as much of as much of a discount as they would a debt settlement company. This goes back to them seeing you as a risk. However, debt settlement companies employ skilled negotiators to get you the deepest discounts possible. On your own, you might get 40-50% knocked off the amount you owe, but a debt settlement company might be able to get you 60-80% off. Not only that, under certain circumstances, they may be able to get you additional time to pay the money back if the discount isn't as low as what you need it to be. This is something that you probably won't be able to achieve on your own.
